Dare you to doubt me was a piece made for film, inspired by the constant rejection that most dancers, in particular females, experience in the dance industry. Influenced by and danced to the song of the same name by The Script, Anita wanted to shine a light on the harsh and sometimes inappropriate criticism that female dancers experience during professional training and their careers. In the video, you will witness true words that have been spoken by people during the dancer’s careers, but despite this they have kept going.

Parade - The Giant Wheel is a moving performance inspired by the beauty, power, and impact of people from different walks of life coming together, featuring a 12-foot tall Giant Wheel powered by 5 street artists and accompanied by music and a large community cast of local groups and individual performers.
Autin Dance Theatre uses their unique blend of contemporary storytelling, striking physicality and innovative large designs to transport audiences and communities along a carefully choreographed procession.
The 50-minute itinerant act is punctuated by 3 static moments that celebrate the tension and fracture between our individual identities and our shared collective humanity. Ultimately, Parade is about celebrating different journeys whilst honouring our shared life struggles.
The Giant Wheel carries the performers high above the streets, spins them around ferociously, turning their worlds upside down, at times giving them momentum and speed, and at others rocking them gently back and forth imitating the laborious and repetitive cycle of life.
Parade is an ambitious and scalable street performance that has inclusivity and accessibility at its heart. Local participants can join Parade’s community engagement plans including opportunities for groups to perform alongside the procession and for individuals to join the large-scale movement of mass participation.

OUT OF THE DEEP BLUE is an outdoor physical theatre performance featuring a 13-foot tall Puppet operated by 5 puppeteers and a female dancer.
This spectacle is designed specifically for family and festival audiences and tells the magical story of Eko, a sea giant who rises from the deep ocean and who encounters, on the shore, a courageous little girl called Violet.
The choreography is a larger-than-life ‘pas de deux’, which uses contemporary dance theatre and masterful puppeteering as storytelling tools, accompanied by a mesmerising soundscape.
The performance is in two-parts: a 25-minute promenade of the giant puppet interacting with the location, environment, architecture and the audience, and a 25-minute dance theatre duet located at a set performance space (traditionally the walkabout leads to static show).
Created in 2021, OUT OF THE DEEP BLUE has toured and continues to tour extensively across the UK and internationally. The show has visited over 95 festivals and performing to more than 760,000 audience members.

‘Beyond Words’ is a ground-breaking, cross arts dance company, founded by poet and choreographer Helen Calcutt.
We present text in ways never-before experienced, holding space for words to learn their physical power. Our work is story driven, rooted in a choreographic language of precise, gestural articulation, physical dynamism, and ensemble staging.
Through our research, we are committed to true intergration of artistic form. Dance and words have longed occurred side by side. We're interested in deeper translation - where text is 'read' through non-verbal methods of delivery and communication.
Uniting contemporary dance, gesture, and voice, dancers are brought together through playful & unexpected exchanges to create compelling new modes of physical storytelling that ‘break language’.

Participation is a core aspect of our work, supporting our research and connecting us to vibrant dance communities. Our workshops and training experiences are lead by a team of highly experienced movers and performers, with in-depth knowledge of connecting to text, and the self, through embodiment. We tour the country sharing our repertoire with dance professionals, alongside community workshops and research sessions. Our work dives-deep into our unique text translation practice, seeing movement as a means to truly 'speak', exploring how we might shift the landscape of contemporary dance-theatre from abstraction, into exciting new realms of vital communication. Find out more here.

A radical new dance adaptation of Max Porter’s award-winning novel.
In this 'poignant and vital' (One Dance U.K.) re-imagining of a timeless text, five dance performers take audiences on a journey of despair, humour, and resilience, in a highly charged and controversial new dance-theatre work.
Using the company’s distinct translation methods – now adapted for the stage – 'Grief Is the Thing with Feathers' tells the story of a father, his two sons, and the sudden loss of their wife and mother.
In their deepest moment of grief, 'Crow' appears - antagonist, trickster, babysitter - and the centre-point around which this dark, yet tender story about family and loss evolves.
Crow lives within all characters, both wreaking havoc, and inspiring change. Performed to live music, within the breadth and depth of Calcutt's animated, cross-arts choreography, audiences will witness a powerful mode of physical storytelling that ‘breaks language.

Closer To My Dreams tells the stories of five dancers moving around spaces with the audience following wearing headphones. The show weaves poetry/rap with Hip Hop choreography. Closer To My Dreams is the journey of two young black brothers and their friends from inner-city Hulme pursuing their artistic dreams.
Living parallel lives, the story shows the journey of two brothers forging the relationships with their peers, family and romantic relationships. Exploring universal questions of how we respond to the trials and tribulations that life throws at us, what path to take, when to hustle and when to let go.

Claudia Palazzo is a London born and based artist and dancer working across the intersections and contradictions of dance, performance art, installation, alternative cabaret and film using her body as a responsive site to her environment and territory. Her work exists somewhere between the nightclub, gallery and street, and focuses on the live experience and a place to be able to shift through, let go and sit/deal with. It is often poetic, feral, meditative and violent in its structure, influenced by roots in nightclub culture, inner-city concrete dwellings and psychophysical training. She seeks to establish charged connections and subliminal feedback loops of understanding with an audience in order to process and harness our collective and individual sense of joy, sadness, resistance, power and endurance. Current research is around absorbing impact, damaged support structures, what can represent us in our absence and repair and rebuild.
She is a studio holder at CONDITIONS, a member of drag troupe The Lipsinkers, a member of queer performance and activism collective SPIT and was artist and dancer in residence at GROW Tottenham. Claudia DJ's for The Posh Club - a nightclub in the daytime for the over 60's run by Duckie.
Conrad Kira is a musical artist, producer DJ and sound designer. He comes from Peckham and is a South London native. His musical endeavours span from producing expansive soundtracks to producing industrial drill and grime inspired beats.

There are 26 vertebrae in the adult human spine. I couldn’t order a replacement. My spine is the length of this light.
Claudia Palazzo presents new performance work Our Suspended Corridors. Created and performed alongside musician/producer Conrad Kira with lighting artist Marty Langthorne. The Performance comprises dance, live sound, wheels, text and a lot of strip lights. It explores notions of urban healing and the concrete fetish, the absorption of bone, noise and cement. Navigating the complex tensions between inherent strength and the impact of damage.
Exploring the materiality of concrete and its relationship to movement and bass. The work looks at the mass made urban material of strip lighting, held up by concrete, as a central vehicle to unpack ideas about absorbing impact, fitting in spaces, re-building and replacing the self in space. In an attempt to unfix the self from ableist ideals of mobility and repair, Our Suspended Corridors drills through to expose the pipework of the body and city.
Get up, just get up…up. It’s better to go out on a high.
Some new kind of high rise

"16:1" is an ongoing choreographic series, started during lockdown.
One single dancer records themselves 16 times with slight changes of counts or movements in the same choreography.
Editing all the videos together brings all patterns and canons alive, to create a digital piece of art.
These videos can be projected on walls, or can be on screens.
New videos can be made for your own venue and themes.
This project is still developing: it started as videos online, and it could become art installations should space and budget allow it.

Perception is an award-winning hip-hop theatre piece dealing with how we are all perceived by others. Exploring the invisible struggle for control and self-expression whilst maintaining a front that pretends everything is ok. Do you wonder how you are perceived by others? Do they see the front that you portray or the reality beneath the surface? We are often perceived in a certain way due to a front that is not a reality, the reality is we have lost control. At first we have to strip back the layers, discover the issue and bring it too light to then overpower and control it. Once this control is restored the path before us becomes clear.

Choreographer and stage director, Georgia Tegou’s work approaches ‘Dance-as-design’ intertwining choreography with design to create immersive visual environments. Drawing inspiration from architecture, sculpture, visual arts, science and philosophy, she explores the symbiotic relationship between dance and spatial arts, seeking to encapsulate nuances of the human condition. The performances and installations are created through collaborative processes resulting in experiences that blend contemporary dance, visual physical theatre and performance art. Her work has been presented by organisations such as Dance Umbrella International Festival, Sadler’s Wells, the Royal Opera House, Onassis Stegi, the Greek National Opera, the Venice Biennale of Architecture, The Place, ZfinMalta National Dance Company, Southbank Centre, The Whitechapel Gallery among others. It has received acclaim and has been described as ‘Visually evocative’ (Eckhard Thiemann - The Lowry) ‘Dreamlike (The Times), ‘Tremendously clever’, ‘Admirably Strong’ (Sanjoy Roy), ‘work that’s shifting and challenging dance and its intersectionality to broaden access to wider communities’ (Dance Umbrella). She is a Higher Education Academy Fellow, she was recognized with an ‘Excellence in Teaching Award’ by the University of Roehampton and she guest lectures globally. She is currently an artist in residence at Somerset House Exchange, a programme supporting extraordinary interdisciplinary practitioners.

REVERIE opened the Dance Umbrella International Festival in London in October 2022
'What a way to open the newest edition of Dance Umbrella...The movement was the definite hero here – it was a celebration of the beauty of bodies, both human and mythical ones.’
‘Like a striking scent of freshly roasted coffee beans in between strong, delightful perfumes. A show like “Reverie” will challenge your perception but also make hope for more.’
Review by West End Evenings
Presented by Dance Umbrella in partnership with The Place
The presentation is co-produced and supported by the Onassis Stegi ‘Outward Turn’ Programme, the Arts Council England and The Lowry.
Enter a metaphorical universe in which all sense of time is lost, where characters evoke a surreal and swirling dreamlike state. Blurring the line between the real and the imaginary, Reverie invites audiences into a ‘fantasy-like’ world in which they might recognise their own emotions, phobias and behaviours. Reverie explores how memories and the past shape our collective narrative. Drawing inspiration from the use of archetypes in Lewis Carol’s Alice and Carl Jung’s theories on the subconscious, the work creates connections between the known and the unfamiliar to demonstrate how interchangeable these states can be.
A visually evocative production which conjures up an emotionally charged landscape of mysterious and captivating images. I was intrigued by its singular vision which successfully blends body and object, and is performed by a charismatic cast.’

What happens when your world falls apart?
HOMECOMING blends storytelling, dynamic choreography, and cutting-edge technology to trace the journey of a woman on a quest to reconnect with her lost sense of self. Through a stunning live performance interwoven with immersive interactive projections, we follow a journey between two worlds, where reality bends and breaks.
Step into the shoes of a ghost trapped in a haunting, otherworldly limbo, desperately searching to reclaim its body. Told from the ghost’s perspective, this emotionally charged narrative dives into themes of disconnection, the cathartic joy of rediscovering oneself, and the slow process of rebuilding after burnout. This raw and emotional tale invites you to dive into the spirit’s haunting memories and unravel the mystery of her forgotten identity, resonating with anyone who has ever had to reclaim what was once lost. This is not just a story of survival, but of rebirth - a visceral, unforgettable reminder of the strength it takes to come home to oneself.
There are two ways to experience HOMECOMING: as an immersive theater performance that merges live performance with digital elements, or as a VR experience in The Lowry’s lobby. In the VR experience, you step into the role of the ghost, unlocking the story through your own movement.
Accessibility is integral to the piece, placing it at its core.

Moonlight Dream is a new dance theatre production created for babies aged 0-3 years and their caregivers. This heartwarming show draws inspiration from the comforting bedtime rituals and soothing evening stories that accompany their routines. Like a serene fable, Moonlight Dream explores the gentle transition into sleep, the sweet conclusion of the day, and the journey into the world of dreams.
The performance is a sensory-rich journey that immerses audiences in a whimsical voyage to the moon and beyond, wrapped in the comforting power of lullabies and the calm of twilight. The story unfolds, following a young child who embarks on an imaginative adventure with two delightful companions: a nurturing bear and a playful fox. Together, they navigate the mysteries of the night sky, discovering shimmering stars, moonlit rivers, and magical oceans. The moon becomes a gentle guide for the young traveler until the long-anticipated sleep is finally achieved. A wonderful opportunity for parents and caregivers to relax, lie down with their little ones and let the dreamy atmosphere of gentle sounds, soft lunar landscapes, and twinkling starlight carry them on a cosmic adventure. An interactive experience through movement, music and light designed to foster curiosity and spark an early fascination with the celestial wonders above.
Moonlight Dream is co-commissioned and produced by Maiden Voyage Dance supported by the National Lottery through the Arts Council Northern Ireland and is co-commissioned by Luail, the new all island dance company supported by Arts Council Ireland / An Chomhairle Ealaíon.

CHARCO (Spanish for ‘puddle') is a performance installation that includes responsive sound and video. Drawing from feminist science-fiction, the work is situated in an imaginary future in which we see a group of humans that have never experienced nature and have therefore a different understanding of the sensorial world. It aims to articulate the importance of a bodily experience, triggering imagination and ancestral memories of what it once meant to be human. In CHARCO the body serves as a technology to rediscover its somatic devices as well as a new pathway to be alive and take care of our environment.

Ellipsis Land is a performance exploring the relationship between the virtual and the physical realm in our times where technology prevails. The performers explore the connection between the body and the technology that surrounds it, and look at how humans adapted the way they approach and apprehend their environment. They embrace a new reality where the nervous system is in connection with the technological world. Articulating the organic and the artificial, Ellipsis Land creates a perceptive universe that questions the order of daily life, in relation to the force of gravity, the body, the architecture and sounds around us.

In THE REVENGE OF POPPERFACE, the shadow-self or alter ego of artist Gareth Chambers invites audiences to bear witness to the real-time crafting of personal mythologies, through dance, mixed martial arts and boxing practices.
Popperface returns from the dead, leaning into their namesake as the puffed-up, blue-lipped embodiment of excessive amyl nitrate (poppers) consumption. For this 50-minute performance, the occult and operatic throb together, working towards a subterranean crescendo, while bathed in the stretched song of French disco pioneer (and muse of Salvador Dali), Amanda Lear.
An experimental exploration of the masculine drawing on research and development undertaken throughout Hull, Nottingham and in lockdown, crystallised for audiences at Chapter Arts Centre and presented with the support of Arts Council Wales.
